Shadow Mountain Guest Ranch is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts. 

A feeling of ultimate freedom greets you when you're in the Rockies. Wide open spaces, swift rivers, expansive lakes, and deep forests surround the Ranch, and most activities listed here are within 30 minutes' drive.

Horseback Riding

There are many horseback riding outfits, but we highly recommend our local outfitter, High Country Trails, which is across CO 125 from the Ranch. Trips range from 2 hours to overnight pack trips and cattle drives.

Whitewater Rafting

What better way to cool off than on a whitewater rafting trip! Whether you want mild or wild rapids, there's plenty of it right here. Red Tail Rafting or Adventures in Whitewater will get you on the wild and scenic Colorado River. 

Hiking/Bicycling

With National Forest Land in every direction, and over 500 miles of hiking trails in Grand County alone, chances are you'll find a hike that fits your level of fitness. If you're thing is mountain biking, Winter Park, about 30 minutes' drive should fulfill your single-track fixes, as one of the best places in the U.S. for serious mountain bikers. Road cyclists are in luck too! Colorado Highway 125 is a cyclist's paradise, with very little vehicle traffic and a smooth surface, it's a fantastic place to get some miles in under your belt. Fishing

Fishing in Grand County is considered some of the best in the West. With large glacial lakes - Grand Lake, Shadow Mountain Reservoir, and Lake Granby just 30 minutes away, you're guaranteed to have an incredible deepwater fishing adventure. If you're into fly-fishing, you're in luck too. The Colorado River, and the Williams Fork tailwater section, literally minutes from the Ranch, offers anglers unprecedented opportunities to catch wild rainbow, brown, and cutthroat trout. Willow Creek runs north from the Ranch, is also a wild trout stream, and fishes very well in late Summer and Fall. If you're looking for options further away, the Blue River is about an hour and a half drive, and the Fraser River in Tabernash is about a 45-minute drive. Hunting

Hunting is an ever-popular activity in Grand County. Big Game, Small Game, Elk, Mountain Lion, and Turkey are just a few examples of hunts that happen near the Ranch. Check the CDOW's website for all hunting information.

Snowmobiling/ATVs

When winter rolls around, a classic winter activity here at the Ranch is snowmobiling. With hundreds of miles of trails nearby, you can spend long days out in a Winter Wonderland. In summertime, consider an ATV for exploring the wilderness. On the Trail Rentals can get you hooked up. 

Downhill Skiing/Cross-Country/Snowshoeing

Shadow Mountain Ranch is only 10 minutes from Granby Ranch Ski Area and 30 minutes to Winter Park Ski Resort. Grand County is home to miles and miles of excellent XC skiing opportunities. Or, bring your snowshoes and spend some time in the high mountain elevations. With Rocky Mountain National Park 30 minutes away, you're sure to find some incredible winter activities!

Boat Rentals on Lake Granby

If you're looking to spend some time on the open water, you can rent a boat for a few hours or all day long to explore the incredible Lake Granby! Highland Marina and Beacon Landing Marina are a few services that rent both pontoon and power boats. With views of Rocky Mountain National Park in the background, this is truly a memorable experience that is unique for Colorado!

Rodeo

Make your stay complete by attending one of Grand County's world class summer rodeo events. Bull riding, barrel racing, mutton busting, the calf scrambler and more! The rodeo is guaranteed fun. Throughout the summer attend the renowned High Country Stampede Rodeo in Fraser. Or, more locally the Granby Rodeo.
